With summer quickly coming to an end, plan your last family weekend at Grays Harbor Beaches before sending the kids back to school.  Labor Day weekend offers many events and activities for families to enjoy. This time of the year offers fantastic sunsets, comfortable temperatures, and cool breezes on the beach.

Line up of Events:

Sept 1-3 Ocean Shores has an Arts and Crafts Festival which showcases 1,000s of unique handmade items.  This is one of the largest handmade arts & Crafts fairs in Western Washington. (Sept 1-3)

Sept 15-17 Ocean Shores is invaded with a Whale of a Quilt Show which offers boutique vendors, handmade quilts, demonstration and quilted items.

 Sept 2 Oyhut Bay is hosting Paddle the Shores at Oyhut Bays Seaside Village Waterfront Recreation Area-Marine View Drive.  This is for human powered watercraft and is geared for the entire family.  There are several races including a poker paddle race, 2 or 6 mile races, cardboard boat race along with races for the kids.  They also will have vendors, a Quinault Paddle Exhibition, skills demonstrations, and a Music Festival.  All water participants are asked to bring their own life jackets and whistles.  There is a $15.00 entry fee per person or $25.00 entry with event shirt. There are several divisions for all types of boats. Registration starts at 9 am.

Sept 2 Seabrook has its last Saturday Market.

Sept 2 & Sept 9 SeaBrook Turning Circles Sand Workshop.  Turning Sand Circles to magic mandalas.

Sept 2 Seabrook DJ Jam Party an all ages dance party in front of the Meriweather Street merchants.  Dress your best in 70s-90s gear.  Prizes awarded for best dressed.

Sept 22 Seabrook hosts its Coastal Harvest Benefit Dinner which is an annual fundraising dinner to benefit Coastal Harvest Food Bank.

Although, salmon season has closed early due to catching the quota limit, the south beaches still offer many activities throughout the month of September.

Sept 2.  Westport hosts its 70th Annual Seafood Festival and Craft Show – offering fresh fish, oysters and more, along with live music and local crafts.

Sept 2 Westport Corvettes at the Marina is also going on during the seafood festival.

Bring the family and enjoy the seafood festival, wander around the craft show and look at the corvettes.

Sept 9 Westport Brady’s World Famous Oyster Feed – Oysters served every way you like them.  All proceeds benefit clean water and scholarships.

Sept 15-17 is Westport’s Maritime Music Festival – Enjoy three days of music, vendors, food and a beer garden located on the grounds of the Westport Maritime Museum.

Sept 15-Oct 31 Westport Boat Basin Salmon Derby

Sept 16-17 Westport Annual Operation Shore Patrol – Come out and help clean up the beach.  Sponsored by the State 4×4 Association.

Sept 16-17 Westport 30 Miles of Junque Garage sales galore from Westport to Tokeland and Ocosta.

Sept 22-24 Westport Annual Clean Water Classic Surfing Contest a friendly competition that’s all about keeping the beaches and ocean clean.

Sept 23-24 Westport Annual Salmon Tales Festival

There are many opportunities throughout the month at both beaches.  Some weekends have more than one event going on in the area.  On the North Beaches you can travel a few miles and take in events at Ocean Shores and Seabrook on the dame day.

July offers many opportunities for summer fun. 4th of July events are happening at several of Grays Harbor Beaches.  From a professional fireworks display at Westport, to you lighting off your own fireworks on the Beaches at Ocean Shores, WA July is filled with many activities and events for the entire family.

July 1st is the opening day of Salmon fishing with the Charter Boats in Westport.-Book your trip now to get in on the action. Have fun out on the ocean and hopefully take home some salmon.  This year the grand prize for biggest Chinook Salmon is $10,000.

July 1st -Tokeland has a 4th of July Parade in one of Washington’s oldest resort towns.

July 3rd Seabrook has their Porch Illumination Celebration where guests and homeowners decorate their porches while other people walk around to pick their favorite.

July 3-4 Westport has their Maritime Museums Ole Fashion 4th with crafts, food and music at the Maritime Museum.

July 4th Westport has a Booming Bay Fireworks Display starting at dusk.

July 4th Ocean Shores has Fireworks on the Beach where visitors enjoy lighting off their own fireworks on the Beach.  There is also a show at Quinault Beach Resort and Casino at 10 pm.

July 4th Oyhut Bay, the newest beach town, is having an Ol’ Fashion Family 4th of July celebration from noon until 5 pm with old fashion games for the whole family.

Oceans Shores has many events throughout the month of July with the biggest being the Bikes at the Beach Event.  Bikes from all over converge on the beach the weekend of July 28-30 with many activities, vendors, music, food and beer garden and contests taking place during this weekend.

Seabrook has a weekly Concert Series on Friday nights and a Saturday Market from 11 am – 4 pm.

Westport has daily salmon fishing trips, a fireworks display, a Kite festival and a car show also with an art exhibit which runs from July 3rd until September 25th.

June Activities

June is the kick off of summertime fun at Grays Harbor Beaches.  It’s time to start planning your summer vacation on the Pacific Coast.  Check out the upcoming events the local coastal beach towns have to offer.  There’s always something fun for the family at the beach.

Activities:

Although razor clam season is over until fall, deep sea fishing is just getting started.  Right now bottom fishing is going strong.  There are many charter boats available.  Salmon season kicks off daily on July 1st in Marine area 2 (Westport).  This year anglers will be able to retain both Chinook and Coho salmon in all marine areas.  Book your trips now as the boats fill up fast.  Westport Charter Boat Assn.

Ocean Shores Festival of Colors on June 3-4, is a great family event for novice to professional kite flyers. Come fly a kite or just enjoy the colorful kites filling the skies.

At the end of the month, June 23-25, Ocean Shores hosts the Sand sculpting competition from masters to beginners.  Join in the fun by entering the contest with family, friends or as a business group. This is held on the beach and is free to watch.  You can also watch master chainsaw carvers create masterpieces over the three days. There will be over 100 food and craft vendors at the Ocean Shores Convention Center throughout the festival. Each day there are quick carves which are auctioned off daily in a show room atmosphere.  Bid on your favorite carving and take it home with you.

Seabrook is hosting its second Annual AVA Beach Volleyball Tournament, the biggest multi-divisional tournament in Washington State. Watch juniors, amateurs and pros play for $10,000 in prize money.  Gather up a team of 4 and compete in the beginner’s tournament for charity.

They also offer a free clinic with head UCLA Beach Volleyball Coach and former Olympian, Stein Metzger on Friday June 16 from 11 am- 12:45 pm.  This is open to all ages and skill levels.

Westport is invaded with pirates for a weekend of fun food and frivolity.  Bring the whole family for a fun filled weekend, dress up in your pirate costumes and shop, dance and enjoy the mystique of Rusty Scupper and his bawdy band of buccaneers with sword fights, cannons, music, games, vendors and treasures during the Rusty Scupper’s Pirate Dazes June 23-25th.

While enjoying the Grays Harbor Beaches, please remember the ocean is cold even during the summer and there can be lots of dangers in and around the water, as we all tend to forget this. Looking for something special to do for Mothers Day?  Visit Grays Harbor Beaches for the weekend and enjoy strolls on the beach, family fun activities and pick up a bottle of wine at one of the great local wineries and spoil mom on your way to the beach.

Weather is starting to get warmer and more and more activities are starting to fill up the weekends for the coming summer vacations and family fun time at Grays Harbor Beaches. Do you enjoy hiking and the outdoors?

Plan your Mother’s Day stay a one of the great local ocean beaches. Treat mom to one of the many activities or events happening during this special family weekend.

Seabrook offers many activities in this coastal town which has just been selected by Coastal Living as a great town to visit or live in. Bring the entire family and rent a cozy cabin or house for the weekend. Hike the area trails, enjoy their Syttende Mai Parade, stroll the beach and take in the sights.

The Olympic National Forest is not many miles up the road which has beautiful hiking trails, outdoor habitat and an abundance of wildlife.

Oceans Shores offers many places to stay and eat along with many activities for the entire family. Take mom to the “Shopping at the Shore” event where many entrepreneurs gather under one roof to create a retail extravaganza. Enjoy a family day at the youth fishing derby.  Bring your canoes or kayaks and paddle around the 23 miles of interconnecting lakes and canals to enjoy the surroundings and wildlife.

Westport offers fishing trips for rockfish and ling cod season which opened March 11th, Halibut season opens May 4th and Salmon fishing opens July 1st in Marine Area 2.  Surprise mom and the family and take them on a charter boat fishing or gray whale watching trip. Enjoy the weekend with family strolls on the beach; view the area from Westport’s viewing tower. Eat at one of the great local restaurants.

On your way home from a great weekend stop by  one of the local seafood markets and pick up some fresh seafood to take home with you!

Copalis beach includes Ocean Shores, Oyhut, Ocean City and Copalis areas while Mocrocks includes Iron Springs, Roosevelt Beach, Seabrook, Pacific Beach and Moclips.

During the previous digs, razor clams have been good sized and easy to find.  And with the cooler water now is the time to dig!

Welcome Fall

Fall has arrived and with it comes cooler weather; it means it’s time for razor clam season to start. WDFW has tentatively set dates from October through December pending safe toxin level testing.  The first two days to dig are Oct 6th and 7th.  All tides are in the evening and all beaches are planned to be open for the first dig. While summer may have past and fall is here, doesn’t mean it time to quit going to the beach, there’s still plenty of activities and things to see and do. Charter boats are still booking trips for bottom fish and tuna until Oct 15th. Check here  for booking services. It won’t be too long and storm watching will be back in full swing.

  • September 15– Oct 31 A dock fishing derby in Westport which started September 15 and runs until the end of October.

Grayland has several activities going on revolving around the cranberry bogs:

  • October 8 Jog the Bog and beach 5k & 10K Run/3K walk starts and 9am.
  • Oct 13 Cranberry Harvest Festival Cook-off organizers are looking for folks to enter their best cranberry dishes in the cook-off competition. Bring your favorite dish to the Grayland Community Hall from 12-9 pm on Friday-no entries accepted on Saturday. Judging will begin at 9pm on Friday.  There are two catagories: professional and Novice.
  • October 14-15 Cranberry Harvest Festival with bog tours, a cranberry cook-off and a firelight parade.

  • Oct 25-29 14th Annual Irish Music Festival presenting the largest l Irish Music Festival on the West Coast.

Seabrook has something every weekend in October:

  • October 7 Big Foot Brew Fest 12-6 pm 21 years or older. Craft brewers, big foot, food, live music fun. 5th Annual BFBF, you won’t want to miss this yearly tradition that raises money for the Seabrook Community Foundation
  • October 14 Tour of Homes-Visit Seabrook on Saturday for a tour of vacation rentals and homes for sale, as they open several homes for viewing by the public.
  • October 21 2nd Annual Great Pumpkin Carving Competition-An all day event where you can watch professionals carve and compete for prizes. Judge people’s choice awards.  Join in the family carving competition.  Little kids can paint pumpkins- A fun event for the entire family.
  • Oct 27 Adult Costume Party-Adults only costume party at Town Hall. 8 pm – 12 am with DJ, drinks, dancing, costume contest, party and games. Admission is free.
  • Oct 28 Trick or Treat-4 pm merchants and around town will have treats for the little kids
